The author examines the globalization of foreign direct investment in Africa and the effects of the global flow of capital investments from Europe, China, and India on Africa’s socio-political, socio-economic, and socio-cultural development. He describes conceptualizations of foreign direct investment and arguments for and against it for the economic development and political sovereignty of the recipient country; the history of foreign direct investment in Africa since the second half of the 20th century, particularly from Europe; Chinese and Indian investment in Africa in the 21st century; new emerging players, particularly Brazil and Russia; and the future and need for an Africa-driven investment policy.
