Animated by its inimitable residents and cacophonous disorder, Los Angeles is brought to life through interventions by 27 emerging and under-recognized local artists
The Made in L.A. biennial highlights the practices of artists working throughout the greater Los Angeles area, with an emphasis on emerging and under-recognized artists. The catalog for the seventh iteration, Made in L.A. 2025, includes curatorial essays and commissioned texts focusing on each of the 27 featured artists, spanning generations and working across a wide range of mediums. Featured works include a presentation by John Knight, architectural explorations by Hood Century Modern founder Jerald Cooper and a stage production by Leila Weinraub with avant-garde duo New Theater Hollywood (Max Pitegoff and Calla Henkel). In the spirit of the exhibition, the book embraces writers'' voices from a broad range of disciplines. Among the contributions are interviews, critical essays and experimental writing exercises, all centered on and influenced by Los Angeles.

Neither myth nor monolith, Los Angeles is many things to many people, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal, formal, material, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles, they are of this city and nowhere else. In the spirit of the exhibition, the book embraces writers’ voices from a broad range of disciplines. Among the contributions are interviews, critical essays and experimental writing exercises, all centered on and influenced by Los Angeles.
