Basketry is one of the world''s oldest rural crafts, predating pottery, and uses natural indigenous materials that require little processing and preparation. Basketry and willow weaving are seeing a renaissance in interest, and this book is a practical guide to the techniques, methods, and design of basketry for existing and aspiring basket makers. Baskets can be used as containers, for carrying and hauling, to sit on, hold food and even live in. Basketwork has wide uses, from fencing to clothing, furniture and even building homes.
In addition to illustrated step by step techniques, the book includes an inventory of materials and specialist tools, design possibilities and practical advice. The book concentrates on working with willow, but the techniques can be applied to other mateirals.
